I am one of the coaches at Urban Shack Randburg. I am excited by challenges, no matter what they are. I find it very beneficial to challenge myself on a daily basis, hence a career in fitness and well-being. After school my ambitions were to try and pursue a career in medicine but that dream became unattainable (Long story… Ask me about it and I will gladly share with you). In my final year of studies as a Sport Scientist, I was introduced to the concept that exercise IS medicine. Right there and then, my whole view of sport, exercise, well-being and medicine changed.
I’ve always been passionate about impacting people’s lives in a positive way, but now I am convinced that through exercise, I can help people in a much more sustainable and valuable way than I ever could have done in the field of medicine.
“Consider it pure joy when facing trails of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work in you so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything”

My name is Gavin, most people call me Gav. I am a coach and co-owner of Urban Shack Randburg. I have an unquenchable passion and zealousness for life and breaking the limitations that we put against ourselves as human beings and that is the reason I became a part of Urban Shack. I am a qualified educator and coach.
I began my coaching journey in 2013 at Urban Shack Benoni. Fast forward a few years later, and quite a life journey in between, the idea to bring another Urban Shack into existence came about and Randburg was where it all went down! My aim in life is to inspire greatness, to help everyone I meet to realise their potential as human beings and assist them in achieving goals that they never thought were possible. I’ve always found pleasure in going on journeys with folks who are willing to be motivated to take steps in the right direction, by lending a hand, giving a word of encouragement and pushing them when they themselves do not have the strength to push harder.
“If exercise isn’t fun, then it’s not worth doing.”
“If you’re not living on the edge, then you’re taking up too much room!”
My name is Armand Verschuur, I am 32 years old and originally from Cape Town.
I am married to my best friend and partner, Celeste.
I am a co-owner at Urban Shack and owner of Aloe Group of Companies.
I am a serial entrepreneur, biohacker, neo-stoic and polymath.
I am passionate about wellbeing and the roll exercise plays in it.
I believe that reaching our highest potential (mind, body and spirit) is our duty and responsibility, to God, ourselves and humankind.
We started training at Urban Shack to supplement our marathon running, but quickly found the training methodology, atmosphere and comradery superior to anything we’ve tried before, in fact, we enjoyed it so much, we had to become a part of it..
My experience as martial arts instructor and competitive powerlifter made me aware of the amazing potential we all possess, and I feel honored and excited to be a part of the development and wellbeing of everyone at the Shack.

“I’ve seen an Agent punch through a concrete wall. Men have emptied entire clips at them and hit nothing but air. Yet their strength and their speed are still based in a world that is built on rules. Because of that, they will never be as strong or as fast as you can be.”
– Morpheus, The Matrix
My friends call me “Cellie”. I am a co-owner of Urban Shack Randburg and I’m married to the most amazing human being ever, Armand Verschuur. (read more about him next 😉
Interesting facts about me…my hair is always changing. I am a Pisces. I can speak 3 languages (adequately). I laugh at my own jokes and I believe in unicorns. Now for the stuff you actually wanted to know
Human beings and their potential have always fascinated me. My passion has always been to teach children how to discover and develop this potential. I spent three and a half years at a performing arts school in Cape Town where I studied dance (Ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, ballroom and Zumba) as well as musical theatre. I also gave vocal and drama training to primary school children during this time. My dream for Urban Shack is to help develop it into a space where people can come to learn skills and develop themselves into their fullest potential in every single aspect of life. To guide people of all ages to becoming the best version of themselves.
